Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on farm workers and all hardworking people. I chose La Madre Responsable as a subject matter because my mother has been there for me and my siblings despite the hard work she had to go through or pain. The colors in the piece represent hope, pain, love, and future. The images in the piece represent a hard-working mother in her work clothes and having many thoughts going on in her head while she still cares for her children. For me personally, this card represents a brave woman who goes through many conflicts in her life, but she continues on with her daily life. Millions of thoughts and issues go through her head. A field worker who bends down for hours to make money and support her family. I want the audience to see how field workers are an important part of our lives since they work for hours and most of those hours they are bending, which causes them back pain, but they still continue to do it to feed the society and make money for their families.

Student Biography: My name is Jennifer Montar-Guzman, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mother, siblings, aunt, and uncles. My family is from San Juan Pinas, Oaxaca, Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent La Madre responsible. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was my mother and all those hard-working single mothers. I see my mother working very hard at the strawberry field to be able to feed and buy us what we need. I want all those field workers to be noticed and appreciated more because they work very hard each day to be able to hold together their families. The artistic process as fun and hard at the same time. The fun part was putting all your thought into one piece of art. Being able to express what you feel. Life after high school will be hard but achieve my goal on becoming a nurse or something else but for sure want to be making money to be able to live a peaceful life. I would also take a lot of trips to Mexico.
