LAS PISTOLAS
Ana Valdez Arias
Refran: none
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on how the problems in Santa Maria are real and dangerous and also to spread the word. I chose problems in Santa Maria as a subject matter because the violence and drugs in Santa Maria is very bad. The color red in the piece represents the blood that's has been spilled all over Santa Maria. For me personally, this card represents the guns that a lot of people have died to gun and drug violence. But I want the audience to see that with the drugs and gun violence is really big problem.
Student Biography: My name is Ana Valdez and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom and dad and two brothers. I am a Mexican American and my mom is from Jalisco but raised in Michoacán and my dad is from Guerrero. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was how everyday someone was overdoses or some on was killed and the where trying to find who it was but also how they were shot with a gun and there is a lot of gun violence in Santa Maria . The artistic process was not easy but not hard. What I liked was the drawing and the painting part of the prosses. Life after high school will be work in a job or be in police academy.
